Black excels where fellow Gruesome Mag writer, Joseph Perry, needs work. Black goes short on summary, giving a reader just enough to follow along as he engages in detailed criticisms of what works or does not work in a movie. As with many experienced and fair-minded critics, Black has a firm understanding of journalism and how to mix a balance of objective analysis with subjective, but supported criticism. Black boasts having been a professional critic since 1987, and his experience shows with every review. However, being a critic can be just as difficult as being a filmmaker, even the talented ones often struggle to find their audience. Gruesome Magazine, while providing a wide variety of well-written reviews, delivers a low score on Alexa, indicating a low number of actual readers.
I pretty much agree with the expert score. This guy is all around solid. A real journalist. Few writers like this left.
